Today's Lesson: Pattern Speaking

What I Learned

1. Don't be so... = giving a command

Don't be so + adjective

- Don't be so sure.

- Don't be so impatient.

- Don't be so stubborn. (stubborn = unreasonably or perversely unyielding)

- Don't be so sarcastic.

2. You'll regret = to feel upset over past actions.

You'll regret + that + noun.

You'll regret + verb-ing

You'll regret + if + pronoun + don't + verb.

- You'll regret that tattoo.

- You'll regret letting her go.

- You'll regret if you don't at least try.

- You'll regret if you don't get the house now.

3. I told you to... = reminding someone about your previous warning

I told you to + verb (present tense)

- I told you to wait for me.

- I told you to stop bugging me. (bugging = annoying, disturbing)

- I told you to stop telling me lies.

- I told you to cut down on sugar.

4. I told you not to...

I told you not to + verb (present tense)

- I told you not to interrupt me.

- I told you not to drink and drive.

- I told you not to hang up on me. (hang up on = end a telephone conversation by cutting the connection)

- I told you not to eat that.

※ tardy [tahr-dee] = late, not on time.

5. I warned...

I warned + noun/pronoun + to + verb (present tense)

I warned + noun/pronoun + that + noun/pronoun + would + verb (present tense)

I warned + noun/pronoun + about + noun

- I warned you to stay away from me.

- I warned him that I would call the police.

- I warned the children about the poison.

- I warned you not to do it.

Vocabulary Words

1. hangry [hang-gree]

= feeling irritable or irrationally angry as a result of being hungry

Ex. She is scary when hangry.

2. regret [ri-gret]

= to feel upset over past actions

Ex. You'll regret if you don't get the house now.

3. bugging [buh-ging]

= annoying, disturbing

Ex. I told you to stop bugging me.

4. tardy [tahr-dee]

= late, not on time

Ex. She is always tardy at work.

Sentence Construction

When she have no meals...

-> When she is hungry...

You'll regret that car.

-> You'll regret that car purchase.

I told you to come to office on time.

-> I told you to come to the office on time.

I warned you to stay away from someone strange.

-> I warned you to stay away from someone suspicious.
